CHAPTER II WHY WE HAVE A STOMACH WHAT KEEPS US ALIVE The Energy in Food and Fuel. The first question that arises in our mind on looking at an engine or machine of any sort is, What makes it go? If we can succeed in getting an answer to the question, What makes the human automobile go? we shall have the key to half its secrets at once. It is fuel, of course; but what kind of fuel? How does the body take it in, how does it burn it, and how does it use the energy or power stored up in it to run the body-engine? Man is a bread-and-butter-motor. The fuel of the automobile is gasoline, and the fuel of the man-motor we call food. The two kinds of fuel do not taste or smell much alike; but they are alike in that they both have what we call energy, or power, stored up

A Handbook of Health Woods Hutchinson 9781542667074 Books Reviews
I have read only a few pages and it was enough to see a lack of substance. It looks more like a high school essay rather than a serious work. Even though it is free, it is a waste of time.
ok
This book contains useful information and it is available for free from . The prudent person would be wise to store up as much of this information as possible while it is readily available at no cost.
I bought this as I was preparing to take the Praxis II to be able to teach Health in the Special Education area. It did give me information that I found helpful. Some was a little hard to pull the actual information that I might need. I have it though as a reference as I teach.
The author uses a car anology to explain about how our body works and what it needs.
He gives a lot of basic information on how the body works, that would be valuable to a beginner.
The book is fairly long but a very fast read.
This book in my opinion is more like a type of First Aid Manual and also general purpose health info book. It has good information about Skin, How to prevent skin infections, info on Heart Disease, bad effects of Alcohol, and other common health subjects.
This is a very basic book, however, it is a helpful book.
Highly recommend this book!
Some pertinent information but too much bias and unhealthy advice. Very narrow focused to a one track definition of health. Only like how body works everything else is bias and not backed up by solid support.
Not all the information in this book is accurate and what little information is accurate only tells half of the information. Definitely needs updated.
